We at Johnson Products Company, Inc. have committed to doing more about Domestic Violence in our communities. That’s why we used our Gentle Treatment relaxer kit to launch the Domestic Violence initiative “No Excuse! Stop the Abuse!”
In each specially marked Gentle Treatment Relaxer kit we inserted a purple bracelet (see photo) with our pledge to donate one dollar from the sale to preselected organizations which assist victims of domestic abuse.
We also launched a website outlining out goals and selecting SHEROES who champion the DV cause. You can see them here: http://www.johnsonproducts.com/noexcuse
In addition, we are hosting luncheons in Chicago and Dallas to help us spread the word, and we have gone on talk shows and sent press releases to further the fight.
So, it was a pleasant surprise when we opened our email to find that a smart young photographer named Mirian Silva snapped this creative photo above and, equally heart warming, she blogged about her reaction to receiving the purple bracelet.
This is what she wrote: “As I opened my relaxer box to do my hair this past weekend (Yes ladies I still relax my hair at home), I realized there was something extra in box, besides the usual. Gentle Treatment, a Johnson Product Company, is celebrating National Domestic Violence Awareness Month with the 2nd Annual No Excuse! Stop the ABUSE! Initiative. The initiative consists of JPC’s support of women’s shelters and foundations with multi-year grants, customized events and the national distribution of 75,000 Gentle Treatment No Excuse! Stop the Abuse!™ purple bracelets inside specially marked relaxer kits. With every purchase of a Gentle Treatment® No-Lye Conditioning Crème Relaxer kit, JPC will donate $1 to benefit shelters and foundations that serve, save and improve the lives of domestic abuse victims.*
As a child, domestic violence was the norm . I saw it around my grandparents home and also my parents, aunts and uncles. My first personal experience with domestic violence was at the age of 11 when I got slapped on the face by a boyfriend (well, he wasn’t a boooyfriend…he was my first kiss) and then later by an old boyfriend in College. That day I made a promise to myself and to my future offsprings that I will never let another man abuse me, anyone in my family or circle of friends.
So along with JCP and Gentle Treatment, I decided not only wear the bracelet, in support of this cause, but to also paint my nails the same color. Please join me and many others stop this cycle. Please go to: http://www.johnsonproducts.com/noexcuse/ and see ways you can help.”
Our JPC president, Eric Brown, was so excited to see the photography, which you must admit was very tastefully and creatively captured, that he posted this reply to Mirian’s blog.
Dear Ms. Silva:
WOW! Thank you for creating such a powerful message with your story, photography and support for this initiative. Your purchase of our Gentle Treatment product will help bring awareness to a growing issue within our community–domestic and partner abuse. It can no longer be considered a “joke” or “that little secret” belonging to someone else. The statistics are proving alarming number of instances, in epidemic proportions, having a devastating impact to all communities. Make no excuse – we must stop the abuse.
“No Excuse! Stop the ABUSE!”
